New version of CareerForward™ available
Based on training feedback, a new version of the free CareerForward course shell is now available that contains the instructional context to facilitate the teaching of CareerForward “right out of the box.”
The CareerForward course was designed to be a self-contained online learning course but it may be used in companion with a variety of online career planning tools that provide students with the opportunity to assess their career interests, explore career options and create an educational development plan.
CareerForward was designed to help Michigan students understand how to plan their work lives and career opportunities amid the implications of the global economy. Key benefits of the course include learning about the world of work, gaining experience with online resources and satisfying the new high school graduation requirement for online learning.

- MVU®-hosted Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS)
- Download/install into your Enterprise Version Blackboard LMS (v 7.x) or download/install into your Moodle LMS (v 1.8.x)

Michigan Merit Curriculum courses aim to help students and teachers succeed
With the new Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) in effect for students in the class of 2011, MVU® is upgrading 36 Michigan Virtual School™ courses and adding nine Michigan LearnPort® professional development courses to help students and teachers make the transition to the more demanding curriculum.
Many of these courses are available to students now and are designated “MMC” in the course catalog. They include Algebra I and II, Biology, Chemistry, English 9, English 10, English 11, English 12 and Physics. More courses will be added in time for the second trimester.
The new MMC professional development courses are aimed at all teachers — not just online teachers — who will be engaged in teaching to meet the new high school content expectations. The Michigan LearnPort courses will focus on challenging concepts in Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. The professional development courses will be available October.
MVU® is a private, not-for-profit Michigan corporation established in 1998 to deliver online education and training opportunities to the citizens of Michigan. It is the parent organization of the Michigan Virtual School and the Michigan LearnPort professional development portal.
